Pyromellitic Dianhydride

PMDA is an important raw material in the organic synthesis industry, and is also the basic raw material for the development of new chemical materials and high value-added fine chemical products. It is mainly used for the production of polyimide monomers, and can also be used as curing agent of epoxy resin and crosslinking agent of polyester resin.
The main method for industrial production of PMDA is gas-phase oxidation. This process is relatively simple, requires low equipment specifications, and cost less. During gas-phase oxidation , air and vaporized durene are mixed in an oxidation reactor containing a catalyst for the oxidation reaction. After the reaction, the product is cooled through heat transfer, and crude PMDA is directly condensed from the gas phase. The crude PMDA will be recrystallized to obtain the refined PMDA with a purity of more than 99.5%.
