The main methods of producing 1, 2-propylene glycol in industry are propylene oxide aqueous process and transesterification. Most foreign enterprises use propylene oxide water method; Domestic enterprises mainly use the transesterification method.
Propylene oxide direct water method: divided into two ways non-catalytic water method and catalytic water method, most of the industry uses non-catalytic water method. 1, 2-propylene glycol was prepared by direct aqueous synthesis of propylene oxide and water under the condition of 150-160 ℃ and pressure of 0.78-0.98 MPa. After that the reaction product was evaporated and rectified to obtain the finished product.
1, 2-propylene glycol can also produced by transesterification. Using propylene oxide, methanol and CO2 as raw materials, dimethyl carbonate was synthesized by transesterification of propylene carbonate and methanol and 1, 2-propylene glycol was co-produced.
