Polyether polyol is an organic polymer produced through the addition polymerization of an initiator (a compound containing active hydrogen groups) with ethylene oxide (EO), propylene oxide (PO), and butylene oxide (BO) in the presence of a catalyst. The most commonly used polyether polyols are synthesized using glycerol as the starting agent and a combination of epoxides (typically PO and EO). By varying the feeding method of PO and EO (mixed or separate addition), their ratio, addition sequence, and other reaction conditions, a wide range of general-purpose polyether polyols can be produced.
Depending on the uses, the commonly used polyether polyols are polyether polyols for flexible foam, polyether polyols for coatings, adhesives, sealants and elastomers, polyether polyols for rigid foams and special polyether polyols.
